Carroll W. McCoy Carroll W. McCoy of La Marque was born January 12, 1923 in Honduras
and passed from this earthly life, July 13, 2009 in Webster, Texas.
Mr. McCoy, a longtime resident of La Marque, was
a retired Merchant Marine and a faithful member of Rising Star Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his
loving and devoted wife, Susie McCoy; his children, Regina, Karen, Linda, Cynthia Malveaux (Louis), Clarence Miller (Harriet),
Alfred Bell, Jacques Bell (Vivian), Steve Lockett (Erin Michelle); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other
family members and friends.
Services will be held at Rising Star Baptist Church, 302 N. Oak in Texas City with visitation
beginning at 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 17th followed by a wake from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be Saturday,
July 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor D. N. Benford, Sr., officiating. Entombment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park
in Hitchcock

Martha Bell Parr Martha Bell Parr, 58,was born January 21,
1950. She was the daughter of Hannah Clemons and the late John L. Spearman. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Shufford
Parr; grandparents, Tom and Judy Clemons; and niece, Vanessa C. Johnson.
Left with many loving memories of Martha are
her mother, Hannah Clemons and sister, Pearl Williams; three aunts Hattie Pettaway, Susanne Jones and Eliza Gipson; 2 uncles:
Paul Clemons and Kylser Clemons and a host of relatives who cherished and loved her dearly.
Martha was the owner and
operator of Helping Hearts Facility for a number of years as well as a caregiver for many kids. Robert Eiland (Bobby); Deshaundra
Jones (Neecy), Aisheia Jones, and Demetrius Jones (Teeny) are but a few of the friends that she cared for and considered a
part of her family. There were also numerous other individuals in Martha’s care that held a special place in her heart.
Each person was dear to her and she gave her time and love freely. They reciprocated by loving her without reservation.
Visitation
will be held from 4 p.m. -7 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2008, at Wynn Funeral Home followed by a wake, also at the funeral home,
from 7-8:00 p.m.
The Homegoing celebration will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at St. John Baptist
Church, 2917 Sealy in Galveston. Rev. Ira Leigh Jr. will officiate.
An additional service will be held in Mobile, Alabama
next week. The interment will follow in Alabama.

Frank Belfar Bell ‘Sonny Boy’
WEST TEXAS CITY — Frank and Ollie
Caldwell Bell welcomed Frank Belfar Bell, the first of their six children into the world on August 21, 1919, in La Marque,
Texas.
Frank attended school in La Marque and was a graduate of Central High School, Galveston, Texas. He also attended
Howard University and Tuskegee Institute. Frank went to work for Union Carbide and remained until his retirement at the age
of 62. He was an active and supportive member of Neighborhood Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and
a Deacon. He was an active community person and helped to look out for the well being of the community residents.
Frank
departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, March 22, 2005. He is preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings, Evelyn
Bell Travis, Eunice Bell Simmons, Alonzo Bell and Earl Bell.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted
wife, Annie Bell; his children, Marsha Jamison (L.J.) of San Diego, California, Lynette Forte (Billy) of Rialto, California,
Frank N. Bell (Dotsie) of Bloomington, California, Cynthia Malveaux (Louis), Sylvia Hill (Henry) both of La Marque Alfred
Bell, Frankie Haynes (Richard) both of Texas City, Jacque Kane Bell (Vivian) of Palestine and Ricky Merchant (Dion) of Dickinson;
his sister, Vera Bell Gary of La Marque and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Visitation
will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2005. There will be no wake. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March
26, 2005. Both services to be held at the Neighborhood Missionary Baptist Church, 1800 Oleander in LaMarque. The Rev. Joseph
E. Franklin, officiating. Burial will be Monday, March 28, 2005, at 1:30 p.m., at Mainland Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock
under the direction of Mainland Funeral Home of La Marque.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Jeby Home Health;
the Neighborhood Church Family; Mainland Medical Center, his son-in-law, Richard Haynes and grandson, Ranoi "RayRay" Armstrong.

Patricia A. Shannon Nelson LA MARQUE — God brought forth
from the union of Rutha M. and J.C. Shannon a special light on January 10, 1942, and named her Patricia Ann Shannon. Patricia,
affectionately known by her family and friends as “Pat”, was a woman destined to impact the lives of all who knew
her.
Raised as a God fearing Christian woman, Pat united with Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church and always served
God in a variety of capacities. She received her formal education through the La Marque Independent School District and was
a graduate of Lincoln High School - Class of 1959. Furthering her education, she attended Prairie View A&M. College, Prairie
View Texas where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.
Pat was the first African American
to be hired by Monsanto plant during the 1960’s and remained there for a number of years. She later taught at Ball High
School, Galveston, Texas where she influenced the lives of many students as an educator in Business Administration.
Pat,
being the most adventurous of her siblings, left La Marque in the early 1970’s to pursue her dreams. She was united
in marriage to Richard Nelson and this union was blessed with one son, Christopher Nelson. She found her place at the Los
Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency and retired after 20 years of dedicated service. During her tenure, one of her most
memorable accomplishments was purchasing the land for the development of the Staple Center, home of the Los Angeles Lakers,
where her name is etched on the West wall. While serving the city, she pursued her license in Real Estate. She served as co-founder
and President of the Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Los Angeles Chapter, a professional sorority for many years and was a faithful
member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by the late Rev. Dr. E.V. Hill. She served in the mission, Sunday
school and the choir for over 30 years before returning home in 2003.
Upon her arrival home, she immediately went to
work in the church and her community. Pat, belonged to the Clean City Commission, the NAACP Mainland Branch 6201, served in
the Jr. Mission, the Sr. Choir and the Mass Choir of Rising Star and was a member of the Rutha M. Hicks Chapter 29 of the
Eastern Star, named in memory of her mother. At the time of her death she was an independent real estate agent with Stepchinski
Realty.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jonas C. Shannon, Jr. She is survived by her devoted son
Christopher Nelson; stepdaughter Tracy Anderson (Darryl); grandsons Darryl, Jr. and Aaron; loving sister and husband, Ollie
and Leonard Williams; niece Fariece Preston; great nieces Montrese and Shelbi; nephew Eric C. Shannon; god-daughters Monica
Davis and Timora Green-Batarao, a host of loving relatives, long-time cherished friends, and faithful church families.
Visitation
will begin at 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Rising Star Baptist Church, 302 N. Oak in Texas City where a Service of
Remembrance will begin at 7 p.m., with family and friends sharing reflections. A Celebration of Pat’s Life will be held
at 12 p.m., Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Rising Star Baptist Church with Pastor D. N. Benford, Sr., officiating. Entombment
will follow services at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock under the direction of Mainland Funeral Home of La
Marque.

Eunice Harold Simmons, Homegoings
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA — Eunice Harold Simmons passed on Saturday, September 18, 2004.
She
was the second of five children born to the proud parents and industrious family of Frank B. Bell, II and Ollie Bell, in LaMarque,
Texas. She was baptized at Bell's Chapel Baptist Church. She graduated from Central High School, in Galveston, Texas in 1932,
and from Bishop College, in Marshall, Texas in 1936. After teaching for one year at LaMarque Negro School, Eunice moved to
Bremerton, Washington, where she worked in Puget Sound as a registrar in the administrative offices for the Navy. She met
Walter W. Simmons, a Navy man, and they married in Seattle, Washington on November 19, 1943. Walter was assigned to San Diego
in 1946, and Eunice stayed home while Walter fulfilled his military obligations all around the world.
Eunice established
an active and dedicated membership with Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1948. She served as a booster of the
Henry Williams Scholarship Fund for 24 years, beginning in 1980. Eunice was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association
Surviving Spouses and an Associate Member of Las Munecas Society. In 1995, she received the Woman of Distinction Award from
Women Incorporated for her outstanding community service.
She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Epsilon Xi
Omega Chapter, a charter member, a Golden Senior and a Life Member. She was also a member of Rutha M. Hicks Chapter #29 Order
of Eastern Star - Norris Wright Cuney Grand Chapter - Prince Hall Affiliation.
Eunice was preceded in death by her
husband, Walter of whom she shared 45 years of marriage; her brothers, Earl and Alonzo Bell and sister, Evelyn Bell Travis.
She leaves to celebrate her remarkable life, a brother, Frank B. Bell, III, of Texas City; sister, Vera Bell Gary, of LaMarque;
nieces and nephews, Alice Rene Bell, of Houston, Marsha Bell Jamison (L. J.), of San Diego, Lynette Bell Forte (Billy), of
Rialto, California; Frank N. Bell, IV (Dotsie), of Bloomington, California, Cynthia Bell Malveaux (Louis), of LaMarque, Alfred
Bell, of Texas City, Jacque Bell (Vivian), of Palestine, Sylvia Bell Hill (Henry), of LaMarque, Frankie Bell Haynes (Richard),
of Texas City, Ollie Bell Davis (Jesse), of Channelview, Alma Bell Mack (Willie), of Hitchcock, Brenda Bell Streeter (Martin),
of League City, Tracy Gary Justice (John), of Galveston; Godson, Andre Smith, of San Antonio; special friends, Bernice Small
and Helen Dundee Nelson; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday,
September 28, 2004, at the Mainland Funeral Home Chapel, in LaMarque. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m., to service time
Tuesday, at the chapel. Rev. Andrew Brown officiant. Burial will follow at Mainland Memorial Cemetery, in Hitchcock. | |
